Busan: Crowdfunding in the Korean Film Industry Slowly Catching On

The Korean film industry is no stranger to crowdfunding. Indeed, one of South Korea’s biggest hits this year, “Operation Chromite,” used the funding format. Made with a budget of $12 million — including $448,000 raised through Industrial Bank of Korea’s stock-type crowdfunding campaign — the pic’s break-even point was when it hit 4.6 million tickets sold. It sold a total of 6.9 million tickets, so each crowdfunding investor will receive a 5.6% rate of return.
