Good morning distinguished guests, friends, ladies and gentlemen.  Welcome to EPIC 2015.

For those who are here for the first time, EPIC stands for Expo for Property, Investing and Crowdfunding.  We are pleased and honoured to have the Singapore Tourism Board support this event once again and MayBank as our title sponsor for this year.

This is the second year we are organizing EPIC, and for this year, we have worked with Coobitsah to broaden the conference scope and include topics on investments as well as financial technologies (also known as “Fintech”).  In the course of the day, you will hear industry experts cover topics like Equity Crowdfunding, Peer-to-Peer lending, Crypto-currency, Blockchain technology and so on.  If any of these terms sound foreign to you, don’t worry, you are in the right place to learn all about it.

In the bigger scheme of things, CoAssets is only one company in the crowdfunding community.  Crowdfunding, in turn, is only one component in the larger Fintech ecosystem.  Therefore, we thought that it would be refreshing to cover a broader spectrum of issues and not just limit to property or crowdfunding.

We also see ourselves as a responsible stakeholder within the burgeoning Fintech community and we want to do our part in promoting this to a wider audience.  More importantly, we want to energise the public and let them know the potential benefits that credible Fintech companies can bring.

Speaking of credible Fintech companies, I am also pleased to share that CoAssets was listed on the National Stock Exchange of Australia on Wednesday.  Some of you may have read the Straits Times article yesterday and know that the purpose of listing is purely to establish credibility for us to bring the whole crowdfunding game to another level.

In light of numerous property and investment scams, we believe that listing was a necessary step, so that retail and corporate stakeholders would be more comfortable in giving crowdfunding a try.  Looking at the recent response, I am pleased to note that our efforts are bearing fruits.  A case in point would be our membership growth. When CoAssets was launched in 2013, we only had about 200 registered members.  2 years on, we have more than 11,500 registered investors and I am optimistic that the number will keep growing.

So how will EPIC 2015 be like?

We have many esteemed speakers lined up over the next two days to share their insights on crowdfunding, Fintech, as well as properties.  After lunch, we will break out into two different threads. Talks on crowdfunding will be in Conference Room 1, while talks on Fintech will be in Conference Room 2.

Similar to last year, there will be a speed-networking session at 5pm.  You may be wondering what the speed networking is all about.  Think professional “speed dating” where investors and businesses can have 3 minutes of face-to-face time for a brief introduction to each other.  Based on last year’s experience, many delegates found this to be an interesting segment and we have brought it back again this year.  Apart from serious business, there will be networking drinks at 5pm, followed by a gala cocktail at 7pm.  As EPIC delegates, you are warmly invited to join us for both sessions.

As delegates, you will also have free access to investment and property talks tomorrow and we have many well-known personalities sharing tomorrow.

Before I end, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our esteemed sponsors, partners and speakers, some of whom flew in specially for this event.

I would like to say a special thank you to our platinum sponsors, Giants Learning Technologies, SGPD Corporation and the Astaka Padu Sdn Bhd.

Gold sponsors, 8I Education and ECG Group of Companies.

Official legal partner Harry Elias Partnership.

Official event partners, Business Angel Network South East Asia, Financial Planners Association of Singapore, Institute of Estate Agents RHTLAW Taylor Wessing and Ballyhoo events.

I would also like to thank all our media partners that have supported this event, including ProppertyGuru, Crowdfund Insider, Tech in Asia, Homebuyers, Property Insights and the BigFatPurse.

Most importantly, I would like to thank everyone for taking time off from your busy schedules to be a part of this event.  I hope you will have as much fun being a part of EPIC, as we have had putting it together for you.

Thank you very much and have an epic day ahead.
